“The Perks of Being a Wallflower” — Introduction

Welcome back:) I’m glad you like me enough to stick around. Today begins a new journey into “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.” Today is the introduction. Thursday will be parts 1-2, and next Sunday will be parts 3-4. The next week I’ll make a little bonus post about the movie:)

This book is very similar to “The Catcher in the Rye.” Charlie is beginning high school with no friends. He bonds with his English teacher, who is very invested in his life.

The difference? Charlie bonds with a couple seniors and jumps ahead into a later “phase” of life, which includes parties and a lot of sex. However, though Charlie loves to have out with his friends, he doesn’t drink or sleep around with anyone. In fact, he’s a Christian, and he feels guilty for even thinking of such things.

One interesting thing is that this book is written in the form of letters, written to some person of whom we don’t know. Charlie is writing to this person about everything that happens, including his depression and bad days. He doesn’t mention these things to his two best friends. Charlie seems to long for a true companion who won’t ever hurt him. That’s why he keeps himself anonymous and uses code names for all his family and friends.

That’s all you get to know for now. Stick around for more lit information. Talk to you later:)
